This item is made by Asha Handicrafts. Asha represents more than 6,500 artisans in 10 states of India. 'Asha' means 'hope' in Sanskrit. It aims to sustain the marketing ability of individual and family based artisans. It is a not-for-profit organisation which works to ensure that benefits of handicraft production reach the craftspeople themselves, by buying directly from the artisan groups and offering advance payments on orders.
Asha provides training and teaching facilities in tailoring and metal work, thereby establishing new local groups of craftsmen. It also provides educational assistance for children of the producers, medical check ups and treatment and savings programs for artisans and spouses.
